When politics are brought up at the dinner table, you can't promise there won't be a food fight. And when you bring them up in a blog, you can't guarantee someone's panties won't get in a big ol' bunch, that's for sure. To avoid any discomfort of my readers' panties, I generally steer clear of anything even remotely related to politics here. But (and you knew there would be a but, didn't you?) I can't stay mum this time, I just can't.

I happen to enjoy Newsweek, to be perfectly honest with you. With any political news outlet you can expect some bias, though, and I'm not blind to that at all. But look, I think Sarah Palin is a bit of a flake but I do not think it was right of Newsweek to take a photo taken for "Runner's World" and use it as a cover for the magazine this week. The original photo shoot was taken because Palin is an avid runner not because she's some bimbo flaunting around. To take a photo of Palin in running shorts out-of-context, to me, is a bit sexist. And if you don't think so, that's fine.
To be fair, Newsweek's Editor Jon Meacham's response: "We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do. (...) We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard." Maybe so, but this time I think that the magazine went too far. Am I going to boycott it forever? Certainly not. Do I think that whole thing was in bad taste. Absolutely.
